Volunteer

Volunteers are essential to the work we do at Littlehampton Museum, and we have a dedicated team of Volunteers helping us with a range of projects and tasks. These range from cataloguing our collection to carrying out research and answering our many public enquiries.

If you are interested in joining our team, you can find out more about our current volunteer vacancies below as well as download an application form.

Volunteer vacancies

The Museum has been recruiting Volunteers to help us with our ongoing Collections Documentation Project, as well as roles that will assist with the delivery of public events such as object handling and family activities.

At the moment we have taken the decision to freeze our Volunteer Recruitment. If you think you might be interested in becoming a volunteer in the future please do complete an application form and these will be reviewed when it is appropriate to begin recruitment again.

We are also  exploring options for volunteering from home for those who are unable to come into the Museum, we will update this page with more information in the future.

Volunteers will be fully trained by the Museum staff team. No prior experience is necessary. To apply please fill in an application form and return to the Museum via email.

Friends of Littlehampton Museum

The Friends of Littlehampton Museum is a separate organisation that has been set up to support the Museum in its mission. The Friends are a group of likeminded individuals who all enjoy finding out more about the history of the town and are regular museum supporters and sometimes ex volunteers. The Friends Group is a wonderful way to get involved and is an alternative to volunteering. The Friends Group are involved in collections research, supporting the museum at town events as well as fundraising. The Group are in the initial phase of setting up and hope to have a programme of events available soon. If you would like to find out more information please email the Friends group.

Work Experience

The Museum has played host to a number of work experience students and internships over the past ten years. Whilst our internships have sadly now come to an end, the Museum is pleased to be able to offer work placements for students looking for experience in the Museum sector. Students will have the opportunity to work alongside Museum staff on collections documentation, collections care, exhibitions, research and public engagement. They will also be given their own project for the duration of their placement. If you would like to arrange a work experience placement please email the Museum with at least three month's notice prior to the start of the placement to make arrangements.
